Graduate Student Funding and Support

Recommended Filing Dates for Loans

Some graduate programs have their own Department Financial Aid Application and/or deadlines. Check your Department or Program website to be sure of any exact filing dates.

For graduate programs with their own Department Financial Aid Application and/or deadlines, no financial aid deadlines are imposed by the Office of Financial Aid, which administers Federal Direct loan borrowing for those students who apply. However, students are encouraged to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or private educational loan applications well in advance of needing any loan resources to ensure that they have provided sufficient time for their applications to be reviewed and processed.

Suggested Dates

Generally, our office suggests to apply at least three months prior to your initial bill due date to ensure your FAFSA and/or private loan request is received and processed. Please review the breakdown below to see our suggested filing dates:

Semester Initial Bill Due date Suggested FAFSA/App. Completion Date
Summer June 1st March 1st
Fall August 1st May 1st
Spring January 1st October 1st

School of Professional Studies' Masters Loan Structure

The Master Programs offered through the School of Professional Studies consist of multiple semesters over the course of 16 months.  Since these programs exceed the standard federal 12 month academic year structure, you must complete two FAFSAs to be eligible for federal loans for each semester. This may also include private educational loans that would need to be completed to cover your entire program cost. Please review the breakdown below to see our suggested filing dates and FAFSA application breakdown by academic year:
